Pinterest has a large collection of animated GIF pins — from cute animals and funny reactions to design animations and product demos. Downloading them is simple with the right tool. Here's how.
How Pinterest Stores GIFs
Pinterest accepts GIF uploads and stores them in two ways depending on the file:
- Short GIFs: Stored as animated GIF files (.gif) on Pinterest's CDN at i.pinimg.com/originals/
- Longer GIFs: Sometimes converted to MP4 for faster loading (similar to how Twitter handles GIFs)
SocialSave Hub detects the format and downloads whichever version is available — you receive the original GIF or an MP4 that plays as a loop.
How to Download Pinterest GIFs
- Find the animated GIF pin on Pinterest.
- Tap the share icon → Copy link.
- Go to socialsavehub.com/pinterest-downloader.
- Paste the URL and click Download.
- Save the .gif or .mp4 file to your device.
GIF vs MP4 — Which Is Better?
- GIF format: Universal animated image, works everywhere without a video player. Larger file size.
- MP4 format: Loops like a GIF but much smaller file. Requires a video player but supported on all modern devices.
For sharing in messaging apps, MP4 is smaller and often preferred. For embedding on websites or using in presentations, the original GIF is more compatible.
Using Downloaded Pinterest GIFs
Downloaded GIFs can be used in:
- WhatsApp and Telegram (tap Attach → GIF/Document)
- Slack and Discord (drag and drop)
- Email attachments
- Presentations (PowerPoint and Google Slides both support GIFs)
- Websites and blogs
